Since 1975, the Institute of Modern Art (IMA) has been Queensland’s leading independent forum for art and its discourses. Our innovative and diverse programs embed the international in the local and engage the local internationally. The IMA has museum grade, climate controlled gallery spaces in which we present an ambitious program of free exhibitions and events. We concentrate on commissioning new works by Australian and international artists at pivotal points of their practices, as well as connecting underrepresented artists with wider audiences.

QAGOMA holds a Collection of over 17,000 works of historical, modern and contemporary art, and stages a dynamic program of Australian and international exhibitions. We are home to the Children's Art Centre which collaborates on interactive artworks with leading artists from around the world, and the Australian Cinémathèque, the only dedicated cinema facility in an Australian art museum.

The University of Queensland Art Museum was established in 1976 to house the artworks collected by The University of Queensland since the 1940s. In 2004, architect Hamilton Wilson of Wilson Architects transformed Mayne Hall – a building originally designed by Robin Gibson in 1973 as the University’s graduation hall – into a well appointed art museum, aided by a major donation from The Atlantic Philanthropies.
